Training
Professional development is the key to becoming a successful lawyer. We take
pride in our commitment to train our lawyers and encourage and support them,
especially our new associates, in their professional development efforts.
In addition to day-to-day hands-on supervision by senior lawyers, in recent
years, Lord Bissell & Brook has:
-
included its newly sworn litigation associates in an introduction to the courts
program, during which the new associates met state and federal trial and
appellate court judges in chambers, learned some procedures at the clerks'
offices, and participated in practice motion exercises with feedback from a
sitting judge.
-
made available to associates a multi-session writing program, which provided
enhanced techniques for clear persuasive writing and editing with one-on-one
feedback for improving writing skills.
-
presented a panel discussion among successful Lord Bissell partners regarding
business development skills for associates.
-
hosted counsel for the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission as
part of the firm's in-house presentation for all attorneys regarding
professional ethics standards.
-
presented various programs, through Lord Bissell & Brook's attorneys,
skilled presenters, and/or local judges on important legal developments of
interest to participants ranging from the full firm ("Top Ten Ways To Use
Technology To Improve Your Practice") to particular practice groups
("Revisions To UCC Article 9") .
In addition to opportunities to participate in Lord Bissell & Brook's
programs, the firm encourages its attorneys to attend relevant continuing legal
education programs throughout the United States. Lord Bissell pays the costs
for attending these seminars.
Lord, Bissell & Brook encourages its attorneys to commit at least fifteen
hours per year towards continuing legal education.
