Benefits
SALARIES
Each year the firm reevaluates the level of starting
salaries and the salaries paid to our summer interns, taking into account, among
other things, the current market conditions in the cities in which we
practice.
Salary for incoming associates for the class of 2007 is $160,000 in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York and $145,000 in Atlanta.
2007 summer interns in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York receive $2,788 per week (annualized and paid twice a month). The summer salary in Atlanta is $2,500 per week (annualized and paid twice a month).
SUMMER STIPEND
The incoming class of law school graduates are paid a stipend of ½ pay for the
months they are studying for the bar exam. They are also covered by the firm’s
Medical Insurance beginning January 1 for winter graduates and June 1 for
spring graduates.
401K PLAN
Lord, Bissell & Brook’s 401K plan (defined contribution plan) is open to all
associates after they begin active employment. Enrollment periods are
quarterly, i.e., January, April, July and October. New employees are eligible
to participate at the next quarter after their start date. For example, an
associate who begins in September may enroll beginning in October. The plan
allows each participant to contribute at a rate of up to 75% of earnings on a
pre tax basis through a salary reduction plan, subject to a maximum annual
contribution dictated by federal law. Participants have the opportunity to
invest their accounts in a broad range of mutual funds as well as the choice of
a self-directed option through Schwab.
INSURANCE
Attorneys are offered a full range of insurance benefits beginning their first
day of employment. These benefits include a health PPO policy; dental HMO and
PPO policies; vision care, accidental death and dismemberment insurance; group
term life insurance; long term disability insurance and business travel
insurance.
VACATION
Associates are entitled to vacation time according to the length of their
full-time employment as a licensed attorney. In general, vacation time is based
on the following schedule subject to the specific guidelines below:

BAR DUES & FEES/BAR REVIEW FEES
The firm will reimburse newly hired associates for their bar review tuition
costs and bar admission fees for bar exams of the state in which the associate
will be employed by the firm.
MOVING EXPENSES
The firm will reimburse newly hired associates for their reasonable moving
expenses, up to a maximum of $2,000.00, when they are required to relocate
their residences in order to accept our offer of employment.
PARENTAL LEAVE/PERSONAL LEAVE OF ABSENCE
Depending on the length of the attorney's service with the firm, up to 12 weeks
of leave in a 12 month period is available for the following reasons:
a. for the birth of a child and to care for such child;
b. for the placement of a child with the employee for adoption or foster care;
c. to care for an immediate family member of the employee if such family member
has a serious health condition. An immediate family member is considered to be
a spouse, child or parent.
d. due to a serious health condition of the employee that makes the employee
unable to perform the essential duties of his/her position.
FLEXIBLE BENEFITS PLAN
The firm's flexible benefit plan allows participants to set aside pre-tax
dollars that can be used to reimburse participants for non-reimbursed medical
expenses, such as deductibles, co-payments and other expenses such as eye wear
and contact lenses, and to reimburse participants for certain dependent care
expenses.
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
A confidential counseling service available firm-wide to all personnel and their
families.
