Introduction

Welcome to Careers at Lord Bissell & Brook

We are very pleased that you are considering Lord Bissell & Brook as the place to begin your legal career. We are looking for bright and highly motivated law students who will become the future leaders of our firm and the legal community. We seek people who share our professional commitment to provide the highest quality legal advice, who will take pride in ensuring that our clients receive outstanding service, and who have the desire and entrepreneurial skills to contribute to the success of our national law firm. We believe that common sense, resourcefulness, imagination, and extra effort are the key qualities needed to be a successful lawyer. As a firm, our mission is to foster a mutually respectful environment within which these qualities will prosper.

Our lawyers come from a wide variety of backgrounds and have diverse interests, which is essential to our business as a law firm. We are committed to diversity and our efforts extend beyond our office doors into the community. We strongly encourage all of our lawyers to become involved with culturally diverse professional and community organizations. We also celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as a “Day of Service,” allowing our lawyers and staff the opportunity to devote that day to community service for various public service organizations. The firm’s diversity efforts have been recognized for various awards, including the Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s (MCCA) Thomas L. Sager Award, presented to law firms that demonstrate a sustained commitment to improve the hiring, retention and promotion of diverse attorneys.

Our Summer Program plays an important role in introducing the firm’s culture to our future lawyers. A summer associate selects assignments from an intranet workbox. This system permits the summer associate to control the subject matter, type of project, and volume of assignments. We offer educational and skill workshops and multiple opportunities to participate in client conferences, depositions, closings, trials, arbitrations, and contested motions. We also host a variety of social activities throughout the summer in order to better acquaint our summer associates with the people at Lord Bissell & Brook. Each summer associate has a mentor—a member of the hiring committee who reviews the associate's written work and regularly meets with him or her throughout the summer to assist the summer associate in selecting assignments and provide feedback and suggestions, and a sibling—an associate who provides helpful and practical information and advice.

We are very proud that our Summer Program has been consistently highly ranked by the American Lawyer magazine in its annual summer associate survey and commend that publication to you. However, perhaps an even better source of information is speaking directly with alumni of your law school who practice here at Lord, Bissell & Brook or any of our former summer associates who are either still attending or are alumni of your law school. We encourage you to ask questions about Lord, Bissell & Brook throughout the interview process.

We invite all interested students to arrange an interview on campus. If we do not visit your campus or you cannot arrange an on-campus interview, please write directly to our Recruiting Coordinator, Kerry Jahnsen.
